Welcome to Thresher Shark Divers, the premier PADI Five Star Instructor Development and Scuba Diving Center located in the beautiful island of Malapascua, Cebu - the home of the famous thresher sharks!

If you're looking for an unforgettable diving experience, you've come to the right place. Our highly experienced and knowledgeable dive instructors will guide you through the stunning underwater world of Malapascua, known for its rich biodiversity and unique marine species, including the elusive thresher sharks. We offer daily diving in small groups with experienced PADI Divemasters and Instructors, many of them with 5,000+ dives around Malapascua alone.

At Thresher Shark Divers, we offer a wide range of courses to cater to all levels of divers, from beginners to professionals. Our PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center status ensures that we meet the highest standards in scuba diving education, equipment and safety. A full range of PADI training is available including Instructor and Technical, with one of the most active dive internship programs in the country.

Our facilities include modern equipment, air-conditioned classrooms, and comfortable accommodation for a hassle-free and enjoyable stay. We also offer customized diving packages, tailored to your preferences and interests, ensuring that you get the most out of your diving experience. Malapascua is the only place in the world where thresher sharks can be seen daily. And there is plenty more on offer: wreck and reefs, wall dives and macro dives, drift dives and night dives. There is a little bit of everything. Group sizes are kept small and courses are often taught one on one.

We have spacious Filipino style banka boats as well as a speed boat, offer coffee, tea and drinking water, shaded areas, ample space to set up your gear, and of course we carry first aid kits, phones and oxygen.

Dive shop facilities include internet, charging stations and a safe for valuables, as well as a retail area. The beachfront is home to the Wilde Bar for coffee, shakes and cocktails. Oscar’s Restaurant is upstairs overlooking the beach, which makes it great for sundowners.

Min. certification: Advanced Open Water Certification required
Min logged dives: +20 logged dives required
This trip does not run every day, it runs several times a week. Please contact us prior to or after booking for more details. If we are not running this, we can credit your payment to another trip, or to Gato on another day. While this can be suitable if you are OW, if you're not AOW, you may need further training or to upgrade to an instructor-led dive, depending on the site. We will discuss this on arrival or contact us in advance. We will issue a full refund if we cannot run the dive.

What to expect

With nearly 20 years of experience on Malapascua, we believe we offer you the best dive experience possible!

The meeting point is at Thresher Shark Divers, Malapascua Island. It is usually, but not always, at 6am.

First, you will head into the sunrise to nearby Monad Shoal. As you descend, start to look around for one of our big sharks - thresher sharks, tigers sharks, whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, or maybe even a bull shark if you are very lucky! Rays are fairly common, and very occasionally a whale shark or oceanic manta. Your PADI Divemaster might also find time in between looking for sharks to point out some well-camouflaged "Bucket-list" creatures.

Then you will head to Gato Island during your surface interval for two magnificent dives at this famous dive site. The reefs are full of colourful coral, whitetip reef sharks live in the caves and in the tunnel running under the island (suitable for AOW divers with 30+ dives only). And be amazed at the laser-eyes of your DMs as they point out all the amazing macro life at Gato.

A delicious on-board barbeque lunch will be served (optional extra), cooked freshly by our on-board chef.

This trip runs several times a week, not every day, so please contact us in advance to check the current schedule. If it is not running and you ahve limited time, we can credit this to other dives (like our famous Kimud thresher shark dive!) or issue a refund.

You must be staying on Malapascua the night before in order to do this dive. Please come and see us the day by 6pm to sign up and sort out your equipment. Please contact us if this is not possible.
