Do not miss one of the most amazing dives in the Philippines – the Sardine Ball Dive in Moalboal. Dive into thousands and thousands of sardines and if you are lucky, encounter a hunting thresher shark or even a whale shark!
This sardine boat dive is offered usually at noon time. We meet at the dive center for the dive briefing. The divemaster will give you an orientation into the dive center and dive site. Your rental equipment is chosen and we gear up. Off we go to the boat. After a short drive, only one or two minutes, we reach the sardine run area. We descend on the reef top, carefully adjusting our buoyancy. The reef top ends at a drop off, a wall dropping down to more than 50 meters. There might be a slight current, but we will drift with the current directly into the sardine ball. The sardines will be in an area from 3 – 18 meters. There is usually a lot if action. The sardine constantly congregate and explode outwards when mackerels and tuna dive into the ball to hunt them. Watch out for thresher sharks, if you are lucky they join the fray. Quite often a whale shark passes by this area, too. Once we leave the sardine ball behind us we continue to dive along the wall and enjoy the corals and all the other marine life found along the way. At the end of the dive the boat will pick us up. Back at the dive shop the divemasters will take care of your equipment. They will also help you with logging your dive into your logbook. And you can sign up for another dive if you like to.
