Turneffe Island Resort

My husband and I stayed here for our 30th anniversary. We had never been to the islands of Belize and chose Turneffe to spend a week. We stayed in Sunset Vila 3, the farthest room from the docks. I spent a lot of time emailing reservations, asking questions, changing our arrival date and adding snorkeling to our package. They were always responsive and when there was a problem at pick up they corrected it quickly and even called to check on us. The boat to the island only goes on Saturdays and Wednesdays. We chose to arrive on Friday so as not to miss the boat since our arrival time would have been very tight. Turneffe will send a car to the airport for you whether you arrive a day early or not, same for your departure. We stayed at the Fort George Hotel, a nice hotel with a lovely outdoor area and restaurant. There were no cruise ships at the port that day, so many of the touristy restaurants and shops were closed. On Saturday at lunchtime, some of the boat crew came to the hotel and picked up our luggage. We didn't depart on the boat until 2pm and the ride was an hour. We arrived at the island and were met by the staff who gave us a quick overview of the resort and walked each of us to our rooms. We loved our room, very quiet and peaceful, however don't be misled into thinking you can just wade into the water, however you can swim from the docks. Meals are served at specified times. There are some snacks available during the day and appetizers are served prior to dinner at the bar. We did purchase the drink package, that was a mistake. We are "drinkers" while on vacation but never got anywhere close to maxing out $400 a piece for the week. My husband and I both have food allergies (Celiac's and Allium) and the staff were extremely good about having wonderful meals for us. We snorkeled for a few of our days there. Luis and Beans were excellent guides. This was our 1st time "real snorkeling" not the one where they dump cat food into the water and bring the fish to you. We swam a lot each trip out and saw turtles, barracuda, sharks, grouper, eels, etc.. We took the trip to the Blue hole and snorkeled there. That also included 2 other snorkel sites and a picnic lunch. One of the best parts of the trip was the coffee delivery to your room every morning. The coffee and cream were fantastic and we ended up asking for 2 carafes to be delivered - which they graciously accommodated. We would definitely go back, stay in the same room but add more snorkel days. If you are considering Turneffe, especially if you are a diver or fishermen, this is your sign to book it!

This was our third visit to Turneffe Island Resort, and we continue to be drawn to its perfect blend of tropical luxury and easy access to world-class flats fishing. Returning to the island feels like coming home, especially when we're greeted by familiar staff (Ally, Iris, Eddie Jr, Shawn, Hendrey, & Fidel) who’ve become part of the experience over the years. The fishing on this trip was phenomenal—we landed multiple permit and tarpon in a single day and completed two grand slams. I couldn’t have asked for a better fly fishing adventure. Truly, it was the trip of a lifetime and we can't wait to go back!

We came to Turneffe Island Resort for the fishing, and it exceeded all expectations. Our main fishing guides, Erwin and Buddy, were fantastic—knowledgeable, fun, and truly passionate about what they do. The resort itself was an incredible surprise. The meals were consistently delicious, and the staff made every guest feel special. From start to finish, everything was seamless and relaxing. If you're looking for world-class fishing paired with excellent service and hospitality, this is the place. We’ll definitely be back!

This was our fifth time to Turneffe and is it did not disappoint. It seems to get better every time we go. Most of the staff has been there for many years, and it seems they constantly work on improving every aspect of the experience. We enthusiastically recommend TIR to anyone wanting an awesome dive resort experience.

Turneffe Island Resort is a truly exceptional experience for the mind, body and soul. It is the only place that I have ever been where the actual resort is even better than the website video! Turneffe is a truly remarkable experience. This was our fourth trip in 8 years, and TIR seems to keep getting better and better. Every member of the Team, from the groundskeepers, to the maids, food and beverage service professionals, to the boat captains, dive masters, snorkeling experts, fishing guides, and leadership understand and provide exception customer service. The accommodations are classic, private, and have really comfortable beds. We love the morning delivery to our room of a basket with coffee and real hot cocoa. The food is great. The bar is even better, and Fidel's drinks should be in a recipe book unique, refreshing, and soothing! Turneffe is a relaxed and relaxing experience where you will meet people from all across the America and elsewhere. "Come as Strangers and Leave as Friends" is the most appropriate motto indeed. If your kids are good swimmers, then a week of snorkeling will change their lives and yours as well. Our children were 10 when they first came with us. There are no words to describe the beauty of the Reef and the veritable smorgasbord of colorful fishes, the magnificence of an Eagle Ray, or the facial expressions of the various moray eels one may see on any given snorkel. And "BEANS" is the best Snorkel Guide in the World, especially with children. Thanks to Beans, one of our daughters is pursuing a degree in marines science and biology. Her first trip to TIR changed her life, and ours as well. Likewise, the fishing guides and dive maters are all exceptional. During our visit last week, guests earned two "Grand Slams" (Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon). One can see, that the dive masters clearly know what they are doing, and their experience creates an environment of safety and enjoyment. The whole team at Turneffe is exceptional. From the management, Ally, Eddie, Shawn, and Iris, to the Bar run by Fidel and Hedzry, to the great dining experience with Jesse, Christian and Charles, to the fantastic boat drivers, Cap, Luis, JV, the Grand Slam fishing guide, Eddie, and the absolutely, most incredible, snorkel-guide "Beans" Campos, all of the these folks are truly wonderful. There are not enough stars for TIR! Go. Just Go. It will change your life.
