Customers should be reminded not to enter the Dive Centre if they have symptoms related to COVID-19 infection. In addition, it is advisable to deny access to non-diving family members or friends accompanying the divers, in order to reduce assembly of people in the dive centre. All surfaces and objects that were in contact with a guest need to be disinfected. Action point: - actively instruct guests to not overcrowd the dive centre shop, - provide alcohol solution, spray bottles and hand wash station The staff present in the dive shop should be limited to those strictly necessary to carry out activities; this means that only one person helps the guests with trying on equipment. Action point: - instruct staff to only go into the shop when required - staff should be aware of amount of people in shop at all times - assign cleaning duties and create checklist The prevention measures taken by the Centre should be displayed on public signs and made clearly visible. Action point: - create signs with prevention measures, hang these outside of the shop and put the signs on a sandwich board - create medical checklist in multiple languages that can be given to guests before checking in Toilets and showers should be sprayed down with disinfectant after each use. Action point: - provide disinfectant spray and signs in shower and toilet to inform the guests of spraying after use. Trying on equipment When trying on masks, equipment that will not be used (wrong size) should be immediately put aside for disinfecting. Boat trips On the boats, distancing can be difficult as there is only limited space. Attention should be paid especially during briefings, entering the water and exiting the water. Dive / snorkel guides must instruct their guests to keep distance on the boat and on the surface. Action point: - remind guests of keeping distance as marking off seats is not possible - boat briefing MUST include reminder of guidelines Buddy checks between divers unrelated to each other will be conducted in a different way where each diver inspects his own equipment while going through the 5 steps together with his buddy. Extra care must be made to avoid divers mixing up equipment, mask, regs and snorkels. All equipment should be clearly labeled and each diver is to be made aware of the number he is using. To prevent contamination of the second stage, neoprene pouches will be used to cover the 2nd stage completely. Use a guest list to make a note of this number assigned. Action point: - make sure all equipment is numbered - provide pouches to seal off 2nd stages after 1st dive - provide disinfectant in spray bottle Cups for water will not be handed out any more, but guests will have to bring their own cup, (reusable) bottle, etc. Regularly disinfect the water gallon on the outside. Action point: - guests should be informed to bring their own cup / bottle upon booking Saliva will not be an accepted method of anti-fogging the RENTAL mask anymore. Dive guides are to provide the diver with a solution of dish washing liquid/water solution in a spray bottle. If guests still use saliva for their personal masks, then the masks should be rinsed in the open water, not a bucket. All staff setting up equipment and changing tanks between dives should disinfect their hands before and after touching the equipment. Action point: - provide hand sanitizer - provide masks and gloves for support staff GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR DISINFECTING SCUBA EQUIPMENT Equipment rental should be handled with particular care. Here are some recommendations: - Rental equipment should be disinfected as indicated, after each use, paying particular attention to regulators, BCDs, snorkels and masks. o The solution used for disinfecting will be a bleach/water solution. The proper ratio of bleach to water is 10 ml of 5% bleach per liter of water. o Equipment needs to be submersed in this solution for at least 5 minutes. - Rental masks need to be fit-tested by each diver before use, which implies disinfection after each test. Customers may be encouraged to bring at least their own mask. - Keep areas for returned rental equipment separate from areas where disinfected equipment is stored. - Customers should be prevented from entering the area where disinfected equipment is stored. - Bring the gear out to customers. - Instruct customers not to touch the cylinder valve outlet or regulator inlet when assembling and disassembling their scuba unit. PRECAUTIONS TAKEN WHEN RINSING DIVE EQUIPMENT - If a guest makes multiple dives on one day, equipment will not be washed after each dive, but rather at the end of the day. Making sure to prevent contamination and mix-ups. - When washing someone else’s equipment, mask and gloves should be worn - After washing, equipment should be hanging away from other, already disinfected, equipment
